What to See

1. Do Not Forget in Ju Monument: The Do Not Forget in Ju Monument is the most representative landmark of Taiwu Mountain, standing at a cliff edge and towering several dozen meters high, making it a must-visit and photo spot for tourists. The inscription is based on the calligraphy of former President Chiang Kai-shek, originally intended to inspire the spirit of the military and civilians during wartime, and has now become an important symbol of Kinmen's battlefield history and psychological warfare. 2. Haiyin Temple (Taiwu Rock Temple): Haiyin Temple is an ancient temple with a history dating back to the Song Dynasty. The current structure was rebuilt after the 823 Artillery Battle, blending battlefield stories with religious beliefs. The temple is located near the mountain's summit, serving as a key resting and prayer point during the hike, and is also an important landmark on the way to the 'Do Not Forget in Ju' monument. 3. Taiwu Mountain Hiking Trails and Various Routes: Taiwu Mountain has multiple hiking routes of varying difficulty, including the commonly used Front Mountain Yuzhang Road, the Back Mountain route, and the more challenging Doumen Ancient Road and Caicuo Ancient Road. Most travelers choose the gentler Front Mountain Yuzhang Road to reach the summit, which takes about a few hours for a round trip, allowing for a flexible half-day itinerary while enjoying historical and natural landscapes along the way. 4. Battle Sites and Military Landscapes: Taiwu Mountain is an important memorial site of the 823 Artillery Battle, and the area still shows remnants of battle-related facilities and military ruins, with some active military installations hidden in the mountains. Along the way, visitors can see structures and memorials related to the national defense, making the hike a journey through battlefield history. 5. Martyrs' Shrine and Reflection Tower and Other Cultural Points: Near the entrance of the mountain area is the Taiwu Martyrs' Shrine and other memorial spaces, which are important places to commemorate the heroes of the battlefield. Along the route, there are also the Reflection Tower, Shimen Pass, and ancient stone chambers, which are part of the traditional 'Twelve Wonders' attractions, allowing visitors to feel the cultural atmosphere left by literary figures who once visited Taiwu Mountain. 6. Scenic Views and Kinmen's Rural Landscape: Climbing Taiwu Mountain offers a panoramic view of the central fields, settlements, and coastal terrain of Kinmen Island. Travel Tips

Taiwu Mountain Scenic Area is suitable for a half-day or full-day light hiking and cultural tour, and it is recommended to plan the itinerary in conjunction with other battlefield attractions in Kinmen. The summer sun in Kinmen is strong, and temperatures are high, so it is advisable to hike in the morning or during cooler afternoon hours to avoid the midday heat; autumn and winter offer relatively comfortable weather and better visibility, making it a great season for climbing and enjoying the view. Taiwu Mountain is part of a military-controlled area, and general tourists are not allowed to drive directly to the summit. Most must park at designated locations and then walk along the hiking trails. The Front Mountain Yuzhang Road is relatively gentle and easy to walk, suitable for most travelers and families; routes like the Doumen Ancient Road have steeper gradients and require ropes in some sections, making them more suitable for experienced hikers. It is recommended to bring enough water, sun protection (hats, sleeves, sunscreen), and lightweight rain gear, as the mountain area can be hot and sunny in summer, with rapidly changing weather. The trails are mostly a mix of asphalt and stone steps, so wearing breathable and non-slip sports shoes or hiking boots will enhance comfort and safety while walking. The mountain area still has military and religious spaces, so visitors should pay attention to relevant notices and restrictions, avoid entering closed or military-controlled areas, and maintain a respectful and quiet demeanor in temples and memorial facilities. If military activities or temporary closures occur in certain areas, adjust your route according to on-site controls and staff instructions. Taiwu Mountain is primarily a natural forest environment, so please bring garbage bags and take your trash down the mountain to keep the trails clean, while also being mindful of mosquitoes and small insects, avoiding lingering too long in grassy areas.

Along the Taivu Mountain Trail in Kinmen, rugged boulders line both sides of the path. Shaped by nature’s artistry, some rocks resemble animals. About 150 meters from the bronze statue of Liu Yu-zhang, the trail offers a playful “tortoise and hare race” scene: on the left is a giant rock that looks like a turtle, with the “eyes” on the stone left behind by drill holes from the trail-clearing machinery in the past, slowly crouching among the wild grass; on the right, a stone rabbit stands suspended beside a tree, and its lifelike appearance naturally brings a smile.
