Overview

To commemorate the anniversary of President Chiang Chung-cheng's passing, the military and civilians of Kinmen jointly built Zhongzheng Park in 1976 to express their remembrance of his contributions to Kinmen. This park not only carries historical sentiment but has also become an important green space for locals to relax and stroll.

Highlights

Zhongzheng Park is a large commemorative park built in 1976 to honor President Chiang Chung-cheng, and it serves as an important green space for local residents to walk and relax. The park combines the beauty of Taihu Lake and the Banyan Garden, covering a vast area with rich greenery, embodying both commemorative significance and natural scenery, resembling an urban oasis close to the living circles of Jincheng and Jinhou. The park features a statue of Chiang Chung-cheng and an archway as its visual axis, surrounded by lakeside trails, pavilions, small bridges, and shaded pathways, making it suitable for jogging, walking, and photography. Due to its flat terrain and diverse facilities, along with its proximity to important administrative and tourist spots, it serves as a great connecting point and relaxation area for half-day or full-day itineraries in Kinmen.

What to See

1. Commemorative Archway and Entrance: The main entrance of Zhongzheng Park is located on the south side of Taihu Lake, featuring a grand archway as a welcoming facade, which is the most prominent landmark for visitors entering the park. Passing through the archway, the straight park path, along with surrounding greenery and plants, creates a solemn and spacious commemorative atmosphere, perfect for taking photos and group pictures. 2. Statue of Chiang Chung-cheng and Commemorative Axis Space: At the entrance of the park stands a statue of Chiang Chung-cheng, holding a military cap and displaying a composed expression, with the scenery of Taihu Lake behind him, forming the park's most symbolic visual focal point. The open square in front of the statue was once an important venue for commemorative and gathering activities, and today it is often used as a gathering point for tourists, guided tours, and outdoor educational activities for schools. 3. Lakeside Scenery and Trails: Taihu Lake is the core scenic area of the park, an artificial lake formed due to early water conservancy development, with a vast surface reflecting the surrounding tree shadows. The lakeside is equipped with scenic walking paths and a circular route, featuring pavilions, stone bridges, and waterfront platforms, making it a popular route for residents to exercise, walk, and photograph in the morning and evening. 4. Banyan Garden and Shaded Spaces: The Banyan Garden and Taihu Lake together constitute the main area of Zhongzheng Park, with dense banyan trees providing ample shade, making it a great place to escape the sun and cool off during hot seasons. Winding paths and grassy areas intertwine, where locals or visitors can be seen sitting and resting, creating a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere compared to the commemorative axis. 5. Small Bridges, Pavilions, and Stone Sculptures: The park is scattered with several small bridges and pavilions, some crossing waterways or connecting to lakeside trails, adding layers and variations to the walking routes. Along the way, stone sculptures and commemorative features are interspersed with natural scenery, providing rich visual focal points for photography and resting spots. 6. Family and Sports Activity Spaces: The park has designated areas for children's play and sports, offering simple play equipment like slides and spacious areas suitable for family activities. The generally flat terrain and good connectivity of paths make it suitable for jogging, brisk walking, and low-intensity exercise, making it one of the few large parks in Kinmen that combines commemorative and recreational functions.

Travel Tips

Visiting Zhongzheng Park is best arranged during transit times or breaks in your Kinmen itinerary, serving as a relaxing stop for walking and photography. Typically, you can allocate about one to two hours to leisurely stroll along the lakeside and shaded paths. The morning and evening offer more comfortable temperatures and softer lighting, and these are also the times when local residents are most frequently present. Travelers wishing to experience the local rhythm of life and capture lake views or silhouettes may choose to visit during these times. The climate in Kinmen during spring and autumn is relatively cool and dry, ideal for outdoor walks; however, summer brings strong sunlight and noticeable humidity, so it is advisable to wear hats, sunglasses, and apply sunscreen to avoid prolonged exposure at the lakeside and open squares. The park's terrain is mostly flat with well-paved surfaces, suitable for wearing comfortable walking shoes or sneakers, and it is also more accommodating for strollers and elderly visitors. However, some paths may still be slippery after rain, so caution is advised. The park is rich in greenery, and there are more insects in late spring and summer, so it is recommended to prepare simple mosquito repellent. If you plan to stay in the park for a longer time, you may bring your own water and light snacks, but please ensure to keep the area clean by not littering. If you are also planning to visit Juguang Tower, Jincheng Old Street, or attractions around Jinhou on the same day, consider placing Zhongzheng Park in the middle or evening segment of your itinerary, serving as a transition point from historical sites to natural landscapes and living spaces, making the pace of your trip more relaxed and smooth.
