Overview

Zojoji Temple is a significant Jodo-shu temple located in Minato, Tokyo, next to Tokyo Tower, with a history of over 600 years. It is also an important family temple of the Tokugawa shogunate, known for the San-gate, the Tokugawa family burial site, and the Black Main Deity.

Getting There

Take the Toei Subway Mita Line to Onarimon Station and walk about 3 minutes; or take the Toei Oedo Line / Asakusa Line to Daimon Station and walk about 5 minutes; from JR Yamanote Line, Keihin-Tohoku Line, or Tokyo Monorail Hamamatsucho Station, walk about 10 minutes.

Visiting the Tokugawa family burial site costs about 700 yen, the Treasure Exhibition Room about 500 yen, and a combined admission ticket is about 1,000 yen. Paid areas are usually closed on Tuesdays, and may have adjustments during national holidays.
