Jincheng
Jincheng Township · Castles
The history of Kinmen can be traced back to the first year of the Jianwu era under Emperor Yuan of Jin in 317 CE. In the Ming Dynasty, the site was built as a "Qianhusuo fortress" to defend against pirates and protect the residents who lived there. During the anti-Qing period of the Ming loyalists in Kinmen, Jincheng was a major stronghold. In the 19th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1680), General Chen Long moved the garrison headquarters to Houpu, and Jincheng gradually declined.
Domodossola Medieval Tower and Ancient City Walls
Bannio Anzino · Castles
The Domodossola Medieval Tower is one of the best-preserved defensive structures in the old town of Domodossola, located in the Piedmont region of Italy, witnessing the history of the medieval city walls and castle system. This square stone tower is built from 'Beola stone', a type of gneiss quarried from the slopes of Mount Mattarella, featuring an open arcade at the top and a four-pitched roof. The newly constructed open-air theater at its base has become a charming stage for outdoor performances and events. The tower is situated at the intersection of the old town's streets, easily connecting the market square and the historical center, making it an important point for understanding Domodossola's past military and urban development.
